In round three of the Bay Area Commissioning Fund, American Theatre will continue to establish and/or strengthen ongoing professional relationships with selected arts writers in the San Francisco Bay Area. The program is designed to bring Bay Area theatres and artists to national attention—by broadening and deepening the magazine's coverage of theatre activities and issues in the region—and to heighten visibility for the region as a whole.
In 2008 and 2009, eight arts writers were selected for the program. Four writers, including both previous and new recipients, were chosen in 2010 for round three. This program is only open to San Francisco Bay Area residents.
Each selected writer will receive $2,500 over the course of his or her affiliation. Recipients will maintain regular communication with the American Theatre staff about news and trends in Bay Area theatre, and will complete two articles, one of which will be an in-depth, research-intensive piece.
The Bay Area Commissioning Fund is supported by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
