The American Theatre Reader
The initial publication of The American Theatre Reader
, celebrating 25 years of the magazine, coincided roughly with the dawn of social media as we know it. Cyberspace was just coming alive with theatre blogs and essays, interviews and commentary on the state of our field from every corner of the planet.
What I love about this collection of 80 essays and conversations on critical topics – many of which we're still discussing today – is that it makes me feel part of a magical continuum. It connects readers to the thinking of artists who were on the front lines of our theatre movement, and as it moves through the decades, it picks up and adds the voices of those who are today's giants.
