We're Gonna Die
There are several hard universal truths in Young Jean Lee’s We’re Gonna Die
. The play (seven monologues, six songs, and a conclusion that sums it all up) is both funny and profound, but profound in a straightforward, common sense way. The intermittent songs are inspired, and inspiring (“Lullaby for the Miserable” is beautiful; others make you smile and sing along). Young Jean Lee takes the brutal, inevitable truths of life and, instead of making you afraid, makes you feel better about them. No one gets away unscathed. Everyone has their baggage, sadness, pain… It’s an advanced observation. But, we’re gonna die. After all, we’re only human.
Complete with chord sheets, and accompanied by a CD of the monologues and songs, it’s a perfect little package.
