American Theatre Reader, The
When American Theatre was launched by TCG in April 1984, it became the only national magazine devoted to U.S. theatre since Theatre Arts ceased publication in 1964. In its early stages of development, a number of potential names were considered including Stage before American Theatre was decided upon. In The American Theatre Reader, TCG has published 80 of the most influential essays and interviews from American Theatre’s first quarter-century—with such distinguished contributors as August Wilson, Tony Kushner, Zelda Fichandler, Peter Brook, Athol Fugard, Marsha Norman, Frank Rich, Robert Brustein, David Henry Hwang and dozens of others. The collection features an introduction by founding AT editor Jim O’Quinn and a forward by award-winning playwright Paula Vogel.
