Danny Newman’s (1919-2007) influential guide to building audiences for the performing arts, based on selling season subscriptions, was first published in 1977. Hired by the Ford Foundation to assist TCG in developing subscription-based audiences for its constituent theatres, Newman worked with over 500 performing arts organizations worldwide, raising subscriptions of individual institutions to record highs. In addition, he spent 42 years as the press agent for Chicago Lyric Opera where he was almost always answered his own phone. Subscribe Now! is currently in its eleventh printing.
