NATIONAL THEATRE CRITICISM/AFFLILATED WRITERS PROGRAM

In 1989, with the support of the Jerome Foundation, TCG launched the National Theatre Criticism/Affiliated Writers Program to help young writers from Minnesota and New York develop careers in arts journalism. The program has enabled American Theatre magazine to greatly expand its coverage of the national theatre scene while simultaneously encouraging a new generation of cultural reporters and critics. The four writers selected in 2004-2005 have contributed five articles to date – with two additional articles scheduled for publication in 2005-2006 – adding a variety of perspectives to the magazine.

2004-2005 National Theatre Criticism/Affiliated Writers Program Recipients

  • Matt Di Cintio (Minneapolis, MN) will write, among other articles, a piece about a trans-national collaboration between Tennessee Repertory Theatre in Nashville and its "sister theatre" in Magdeburg, Germany.
  • Jaime Kleiman (Minneapolis, MN) wrote "Flaneur Productions: Everything But Theatre," a profile of an up-and-coming theatre company in Minneapolis and part of a 12-part feature titled "Hot, Hip and on the Verge," in December 2004.
  • Zachary Pincus-Roth (New York, NY) to write a short Front and Center item on edgy and innovative theatre troupe Les Freres Corbusier's Hellhouse.
  • Mollie Wilson (New York, NY) wrote "The Way You Sing Off-Key," a short Front and Center item about York Theatre Company's production of Souvenir in New York City, in December 2004.
