Action Alerts:
12/4/12: Take Action! Protect the Charitable Deducation!
Like thousands of other nonprofits, many performing arts organizations are classified as 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. If it were not for this exemption and the deductibility of private contributions, nonprofit performing arts organizations and many other charities would be unable to serve community needs.
ACTION: Urge Congress to preserve the charitable deduction that is responsible for the sustainability of the nonprofit sector. Click here to contact your legislators today!
4/17/12: Take Action! Reinstate the IRA Charitable Rollover
Arts Advocacy Day Action Alert
The IRA Charitable Rollover provision expired on December 31, 2011, despite advocacy efforts from the nonprofit community and Performing Arts Alliance members urging Congress to extend this important charitable giving incentive. The IRA Charitable Rollover has allowed for millions of dollars of new contributions to support the work of nonprofit organizations, and it is critical to maintain charitable giving options for individuals in order to provide a consistent source of revenue for programs and services to people and communities.

Arts Advocacy Day Action Alert
Like thousands of other nonprofits in education, human services, and other community organizations, many performing arts organizations are classified as 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. If it were not for this exemption and the deductibility of private donations, nonprofit performing arts organizations and many other charitable organizations would be unable to serve community needs. Urge Congress to preserve the capacity of the nonprofit sector to serve communities by protecting incentives for charitable giving.

2/2/12: Take Action! Urge Congress to Reinstate the IRA Charitable Rollover
The IRA Charitable Rollover expired on December 31, 2011 and Congress may soon consider legislation to reinstate the IRA Rollover as part of a larger bill to restore a number of tax "extender" provisions. The IRA Rollover allows a donor who has reached age 70 1/2 to roll funds from their Individual Retirement Accounts directly to nonprofit organizations without incurring income tax on the transfer. This charitable giving incentive has allowed for millions of dollars of new contributions to support the work of nonprofit organizations.
ACTION: Contact your members of Congress today and urge support for restoring the IRA Charitable Rollover. Click here to generate your letter and contact your legislators today.
11/16/11: Take Action! Protect Charitable Giving Incentives
In just one week, the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction - the "Super Committee" - is set to issue recommendations for increasing revenue and decreasing federal spending over the course of the next 10 years. Proposals to limit tax incentives for charitable giving remain on the table in the final negotiations. Now is the time to contact Congress and tell them: charitable giving is a significant revenue source for a broad range of nonprofit organizations, including the nonprofit arts and these organizations cannot withstand even slight declines in contributions given the fragility of all revenue sources; unlike other tax deductions, charitable giving incentives do not increase the wealth of individual donors: they are an investment in the public good and a means of enriching communities; changes to charitable giving incentives in the interest of short-term revenue gain will have lasting unintended consequences for nonprofit services and jobs; the proposed changes to charitable giving incentives come at a time when nonprofit services and jobs are needed most.

12/13/10: Reinstate the IRA Charitable Rollover
The IRA Charitable Rollover is a tax incentive allowing individuals 70 and older to contribute up to $100,000 from Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA) and Roth IRAs to charities, increasing donations to the nation's nonprofit community. As of today, Congress is slated to consider reinstating the IRA Rollover as part of a larger tax package before the end of the year. It is critical to maintain charitable giving options for individuals to provide a consistent source of revenue for programs and services to people and communities.
ACTION: Lend your voice of support to ensure this important charitable giving incentive is included in the final legislation. The IRA Charitable Rollover will allow for millions in donations to the nation's nonprofit performing arts organizations. Ask your Senators to support legislation that will reinstate this important charitable giving incentive.
