2008 TCG National Conference at the National Performing Arts Convention
NATIONAL PERFORMING ARTS CONVENTION
The National Performing Arts Convention was held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, CO, Tuesday, June, 10 through Saturday, June 14, 2008.
The National Performing Arts Conventionwas an interdisciplinary gathering of performing arts professionals, volunteers, audiences, and supporters of all kinds. The first fully integrated gathering of its kind, the convention laid the foundation for future cross-disciplinary collaborations, cooperative programs, and effective advocacy for the field. It demonstrated new potency of the performing arts as a united sector dedicated to bringing the value of arts to more people, more effectively and strengthening communities across the country.
In line with the multi-disciplinary nature of the convention, arts industry leaders affiliated with the following national service organizations took charge of making this the preeminent event for the the performing arts:
- American Composers Forum
- American Music Center
- League of American Orchestras
- Association of Performing Arts Presenters
- Chamer Music America
- Chorus America
- Dance/USA
- Early Music America
- National Performance Network
- OPERA America
- Theatre Communications Group
In 2008, the performing arts community gathered in Denver like never before — to affirm its shared history and values, to communicate its importance to national life, and to identify ways that, working together, arts leaders can bring the value of the arts to more people more effectively.
Taking Action Together! was the theme of the 2008 National Performing Arts Convention.
1. Taking Action. The 2008 National Performing Arts Convention engaged all participants in an interactive process of articulating specific field-wide goals, and together committed to taking action: personally and organizationally, nationally and locally.
2. Together. In contrast to regular annual conferences, the National Performing Arts Convention reflected a multi-disciplinary collaboration that gained power through the cumulative expertise of all participants.
