Theatre Boards in 2002: Arts Activism in Changing Times

New York City, November 15-17, 2002

The Forum will bring together approximately 150 participants, including artistic and management leaders and trustees, to provide an opportunity for in-depth discussion on governance issues. TCG’s Forums give theatre leaders the chance to hear some of the most provocative thinkers in the field and to engage with their peers in an intimate and informal setting. This year, there will be an expanded agenda, different speakers and advanced sessions, so the forum will be of interest to both previous attendees, as well as first-time participants.

Our keynote speaker is Richard Florida, professor of regional economic development at Carnegie Mellon University and author of The Rise of the Creative Class: And How It's Transforming Work, Leisure, Community and Everyday Life. Although the specifics of the remaining agenda are still being developed with the help of an advisory committee from the field, topics for discussion will include board motivation, succession issues and advocacy, among others. The format will include guest speakers, panel discussions and breakout sessions that will allow small groups of participants to engage in focused discussion.

The TCG Fall Forum will commence early evening on Friday, November 15, with a cocktail reception, dinner and the keynote address. The forum continues all day Saturday at the Roundabout Theatre Company’s American Airlines Theatre, with the evening free to explore New York and its lively theatre scene, and concludes in the early afternoon on Sunday, November 17. Fall Forum attendance is open to staff and trustees of TCG constituent member theatres only. Each theatre may send up to three people. To register, download the registration form and return it to TCG, with payment, before the early-bird registration October 4 deadline. Early-bird registration is $225, and after October 4, registration will be $250. Because attendance is limited to 150 participants and we anticipate a large turnout, early registration is strongly recommended.

You will find links to the preliminary agenda and lodging and transportation information on the left sidebar. Please make your reservations as early as possible.
