2010 TCG Fall Forum on Governance

Changing Lives

November 12-14, 2010

New York, NY

The Greek philosopher Heraclitus claimed that the only constant is change, and yet we are still ever surprised by it! Ten years ago, we would have said that the world had changed significantly since the 1990s. But would anyone have predicted the precipitous change that we have experienced since 2000? The threat of Y2K was child’s play compared with the major events that we’ve seen in the past ten years. Today, entire industries are either defined or defeated by the way their leaders adapt to the changing environment. Change isn’t always negative; on the contrary, it often signals new levels of maturity.

At this year’s TCG Fall Forum on Governance: Changing Lives, we plan to investigate how lives and lifestyles are changing in the new economy, but also how it’s not just the economy that changes how we live. Artistic pursuits change lives as well, and that is the reason so many of us have chosen this path—whether as a career or as a volunteer commitment. How are theatre leaders and trustees thinking about their impact on their artists and audiences, in their communities and through their education programs? Additionally, what are the implications for the business models that we use to accomplish our work?

Join us in New York at the 2010 TCG Fall Forum on Governance for an invigorating weekend of conversations, networking and performances. This event is one of the highlights of TCG’s programming activity, and is especially useful for trustees seeking to better understand their theatre’s relationship to the experiences of other theatres nationwide. We strongly recommend attendance by teams of organizational leaders and trustees. TCG sees the diversity of the field as one of its greatest assets and crafts all of our events to be useful for all member theatres, regardless of budget size, organizational structure, mission, audience demographics and geographic location.

Saturday Play: In the Wake, by Lisa Kron, directed by Leigh Silverman

TCG is pleased to offer Forum attendees the opportunity to see Lisa Kron’s In the Wake as a group on Saturday night at the Public Theater.  Tickets are $35 each and must be purchased by Tuesday, October 26 at noon.  Attendance is not required, but we hope that you’ll join us and other Fall Forum participants for a great night of theatre!
