New Generations Program

Objective #2: Future Audiences

The New Generations Program was designed by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and TCG. Round 11 of this program is funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

In Future Audiences, preliminary proposals will be accepted from theatres for whom support will allow for the development and/or expansion of technology strategies that will engage age-specific, culturally specific and/or underserved communities that have proven to be successful and have been implemented for at least two years. Applications will not be accepted to create new programs, but new strategies created as part of an existing program are eligible.

This initiative, in seeking to strengthen and/or expand existing efforts, assumes that the theatre will continue to devote comparable levels of resources. While theatres may request up to $32,500 each year for two years ($65,000 total), this is a 1:1 matching grant and funds from the program can not cover more than 50% of the expenses incurred as a result of developing or expanding their use of technology to engage age-specific, culturally specific and/or underserved communities.

Project support may take a variety of forms including, but not limited to, marketing or programming expenses, hiring new staff to implement expanded programming, the use of a technology consultant, website development, the purchase of new software and the use of innovative technologies and new media to reach audiences. If the proposal involves adding new elements to current strategies, clearly articulate that it is an expansion of your previous efforts. Proposed activities should connect to the theatre’s mission and goals.
