U.S. Center of the International Theatre Institute

At the end of 1999, ITI/U.S. and Theatre Communications Group (TCG) consolidated operations and became one organization. The U.S. Center of ITI is now a part of TCG and carries out the ITI mission within the framework of TCG's mandate.

As part of Theatre Communications Group, the U.S. Center of the International Theatre Institute plays a vital role in carrying out the mission of ITI.

ITI/U.S. assists international theatre professionals and scholars by providing information about American theatre practice, introductions to American theatre professionals, and help in planning productive and appropriate visits to the U.S. Advice, information, and contacts are similarly offered to American theatre professionals traveling and working abroad.

All ITI centers worldwide are kept apprised of developments in U.S. theatre through complimentary subscriptions to American Theatre magazine, which regularly features international theatre developments and a monthly international festivals column.

ITI/U.S. in partnership with TCG, offers the following travel grant programs: TCG/ITI Travel Grants and New Generation/Future Collaborations. These grants are designed to foster artistic exchange and partnerships between theatre professionals in the U.S. and other countries. The TCG/ITI Travel Grants support travel between the U.S. and Eastern Central Europe and Russia. Future Collaborations grants are geographically unrestricted.

In February 2009, the New York Public Library completed a five-year project to archive and catalog the International Theatre Institute/Martha W. Coigney Collection. This unique collection of theatrical events and developments from 1947 to 2006 includes books, scripts, manuscripts and journals from 116 countries and regions, plus the entire Theatre of Latin America Collection, an extensive collection of 1,000 scripts and documents that discuss the modern theatre in 15 Latin American and Caribbean countries. Materials are available to the public, and may be viewed by using the Library's website.
