Vocal Sample, Part 1: "Requiem"

From Passion Play, a cycle by Sarah Ruhl, at Arena Stage (Washington, D.C.), 2005. Directed by Molly Smith.

“This was recorded with members of the University of Chicago Motet Choir. We were looking for an epic, lush quality, so we took a stripped-down instrumental theme and voiced it for choir and a small chamber ensemble. There was a submersion motif in the play, which is why there's water at the end.” —Andre Pluess

Vocal Sample, Part 2: "Oh You"

From Whitman, at About Face Theatre (Chicago), 2000. Conceived and directed by Eric Rosen.

“The whole show was essentially a staged song cycle of poems by Walt Whitman. We liked this poem because it was short and to the point. We scored it for SATB [soprano/alto/tenor/base].” —Andre Pluess
