Report: Corporate Philanthropy Increased in 2007

A new report by the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP) finds that large multinational companies increased their charitable giving by 5.6 percent in 2007. Most surveyed companies cited continued strong profits; improved measurement of pre-existing giving; corporate growth by mergers; the launch of multi-year funding initiatives; and more accurate valuations of pro bono services as reasons for the increase in giving. CECP projects that despite a probable earnings slowdown in 2008, companies are likely to maintain 2007’s level of giving and even increase in-kind product donations and employee pro-bono services in the coming year.
