October is Funding for the Arts Month at the Foundation Center

Throughout the month of October, arts professionals can take advantage of special events, classes and web resources available to help artists and not-for-profit arts organizations become better grantseekers; network with fellow artists and colleagues; and gain insights into what’s happening in their local arts funding community. Featured events will include two arts-focused webinars: Foundation Giving Trends: Focus on Arts and Culture on October 1, and Grantseeking Basics for Individuals in the Arts on October 28.

Action: Visit the Foundation Center website for more information or to register for programs. You can also visit the Foundation Center libraries in Atlanta, Cleveland, New York City, San Francisco or Washington, DC to register for programs.

Google Launches Project 10^100

Google recently launched Project 10^100, which will award a total of ten million dollars to people whose ideas will “help as many people as possible.” Once all ideas are submitted, Google will post a selection of one hundred ideas and ask the public to choose twenty finalists. An advisory board will select up to five final ideas.

Action: The application deadline is October 20. Visit the Project 10^100 for more information and application materials.

Penumbra Theatre Company Receives Major Gift

The Penumbra Theatre Company of Saint Paul, MN, received $150,000 over three ears from the Surdna Institute for the Penumbra Summer Institute.

TCG Congratulates New President of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation

The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation (DDCF) has chosen Ed Henry, current chief financial and administrative officer of the DDCF, as its new president, effective January 2009. Previously, Mr. Henry was an associate dean at Columbia Business School (2000-2005), the associate director and chief operating officer of the Museum of the City of New York from (1990-2000) and a David Rockefeller fellow with the Partnership for New York City.
