by Peter Colley and Robert Creighton
originally produced at Florida Stage,

through May 3, 2009
A brand new musical celebration! A tour-de-force production! A tribute to a legend of film and stage. From the mean streets of New York came Jimmy Cagney, an accomplished “hoofer” and the cinema’s quintessential tough guy. An intimate portrait of this man, his art and his politics, his love of family and his enormous generosity. Full of fabulous music and astonishing dance, come celebrate Cagney, America’s favorite gangster and beloved Yankee Doodle Dandy.
From Artistic Director Louis Tyrrell: We are delighted that CAGNEY! will join the repertoire of frequently produced American musicals because of the high quality of Mr. Colley’s writing and Mr. Creighton’s composing, and because of the play’s celebration of an icon of American film and stage. The theme of the artist fighting to maintain his integrity in the face of powerful forces interested only in commercial success is also central to this piece; we expect that this combination of attributes will combine to ensure the interest of theatres and other audiences in the play for years to come.
