Farragut North

by Beau Willimon
directed by Doug Hughes
originally produced at Atlantic Theater, New York, NY.
October 22,2008 through November 29, 2008

About the Premiere Production:

Stephen is a wunderkind press secretary who has built a career that men twice his age would envy. During a tight presidential primary race, however, Stephen's meteoric rise falls prey to the backroom politics of more seasoned operatives, and his one night stand with a teenage staffer proves to be more complicated than casual. Farragut North is a classic tale of hubris set against a contemporary landscape – about the lust for power and the costs one will endure to achieve it.

Artistic Statement

From Artistic Director Neil Pepe: As Artistic Director of Atlantic, I am thrilled to welcome outstanding young playwright Beau Willimon with the World Premiere of Farragut North. Beau is an extraordinary new voice and this play is particularly compelling and timely as it deals with the nature of loyalty and power behind a presidential primary race. We’ve put together a first rate artistic team led by Tony Award winning director Doug Hughes (Doubt), and starring our friend, Tony Award winner John Gallagher, Jr. (Spring Awakening) as well as Atlantic ensemble member Isiah Whitlock (The Wire). In keeping with Atlantic’s mission to encourage and cultivate exciting new works, this production promises to be a great evening of theater. We are grateful to again have the very generous support of the Edgerton Foundation.
