Transportation to Kansas City
All attendees are expected to book their own transportation to the Convening, and TCG recommends booking as soon as possible for the best possible rates. Participants will be bussed between all Convening locations. For those receiving subsidy assistance to attend the Convening, please review the reimbursement policies sent to you, and be sure to retain all appropriate travel documentation to submit to TCG after the Convening.
Kansas City International Airport (MCI, called KCI locally) is the only major international airport serving the immediate Kansas City area. Participants are responsible for booking their own travel arrangements, but TCG advises utilizing one of the many reputable travel websites to book airfare at the best possible rate. You may want to start by checking rates at Travelocity, Expedia, Orbitz, Priceline or Kayak.
Amtrak trains travel into Kansas City's train station (KCY) daily on two main lines, typically with a connection in Chicago. Call Amtrak for schedule and rates at (800) 872-7245 or visit the Amtrak website.
Driving directions to the hotel can be found here, and directions to the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center can be found here. Google Maps is also a good source for driving directions. Please note that the standard parking rates (self & valet) at the Sheraton are $16-$22/night. Those receiving subsidy assistance to attend the Convening should review TCG's reimbursement policies for parking fees.
Transportation to Hotel and Meeting Sites
MCI has a comprehensive guide to ground transportation listed on the airport's website, including public transit, taxi and shuttle options. Those receiving subsidy assistance to attend the Convening should review TCG's reimbursement policies for ground transportation to and from the Convening and save all applicable receipts.
From Train Station:
The Amtrak mile is roughly a mile from the Sheraton Crown Center. There are public transit options available to take you to the hotel, and the Kansas City Visitor's Bureau recommends utilizing 10/10 Taxi or another local taxi option, such as Yellow Cab or KC Taxi Cab.
To Meeting Sites:
As the hotel is just over 3 miles from the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center, TCG will be providing transportation to and from our meeting site each day. We will provide further details regarding the transportation schedule in the weeks leading up to the Convening.
The Sheraton Crown Center is a 5 minute walk from the Heartland Forum. The hotel and theatre are both a part of the Crown Center complex, and are connected via an indoor walkway.
