About the Program:

In 2011, the Nonprofit Finance Fund (NFF) launched the second year of an initiative to strengthen the nation's leading arts and cultural organizations. NFF has provided members of TCG, Dance/USA, and the League of American Orchestras with financial guidance, tools, training, and support to address the challenges precipitated by the economic downturn. The services offered were customized based upon need.

This webinar discusses the basics of how endowments relate to theatres. The webinar provides some useful tips on deciding whether or not an endowment is right for your theatre as well as offering some alternative ways to help strengthen your theatre's capital structure.

Facility Projects: Planning, Funding and Financing Strategies

This three-part webinar demystifies the various fundraising and financing strategies available to pay for a facility project. Learn how acquisitions can have impact on your organization's mission, programs, structure, operations, fundraising and financial health. Topics include: planning for your upcoming project and understanding its impact on your organization; the relationship between operating, project and fundraising budgets; an overview of cash flow statements; and the lending process and various financing options.


Session 1: Impact on Operations - How to understand the impact of a project on the current operations of your organization.

Session 2: Building the Project - How to create and manage the critical budgets of a facility project.
Session 3
: Financing Your Project - How to pay for your project using several different financing sources and how to understand the loan underwriting process.

Strategic Alliances and Partnerships in the Arts

While it is commonly assumed that strategic alliances always involve mergers, there are many options that not-for-profits can use to develop partnerships to help them achieve mutual goals. Mergers and alliances are powerful leadership tools that can greatly support common mission by building organizational strength. Participants will learn how to use a nationally-recognized framework to decide what type of collaboration to pursue, and they will be better equipped to discuss options for collaboration with other not-for-profits.


Critical Elements in Nonprofit Financial Statements

The purpose of this webinar is to increase the comfort of not-for-profit managers and board members in reading and interpreting not-for-profit financial statements. Learn to balance your organization's mission with its financial realities. You will receive a crash course on interpreting your financial statements to reveal the business underpinning your programs; follow a real-life not-for-profit case study, with financial information drawn to demonstrate how the choices you make impact your organization's financial health and viability; and review the use of financials in articulating your resource needs to stakeholders.

Workshops

NFF workshops offered members of TCG, Dance/USA and League of American Orchestras a wide range of services that helped them stay in balance and in business. In these interactive workshops, organizations of various sectors, sizes and situations learned how management and financial decisions affect their mission and health.


These half-day workshops were designed for executive directors, senior level staff and trustees and engaged participants in how to incorporate financial goals into planning for a vibrant and viable future. Using real-life case studies, NFF offered interactive exercises to help staff develop financial plans that considered current financial dynamics, underlying business models and the full cost of providing healthy artistic programming.


NFF Office Hours

Registration is closed.

NFF Office Hours was a free consultation service available to TCG Member Theatres to discuss an array of financial topics including: financial basics, optimizing the value of financial reporting, financial planning and financial strategy. A limited number of these one-on-one coaching sessions were available to our members.

Accessing and Managing Credit

The purpose of this webinar was to learn how an organization is assessed for creditworthiness and how an organization is assessed in its ability to qualify for and access credit. At the end of the webinar, not-for-profit managers and board members were more comfortable understanding how their organizations could consider various credit scenarios and identified the various approaches available for their non-profits.

Programmatic Modeling for Artistic and Financial Strength

This half-day workshop was designed for TCG Member Theatre executive directors, senior level staff and trustees and engaged participants in a discussion about how to incorporate financial goals into planning for a vibrant and viable future. Using real-life case studies, NFF offered interactive exercises to help staff develop financial plans that considered current financial dynamics, underlying business models and the full cost of providing healthy artistic programming. This practical symposium offered not-for-profit leaders the insight, tools and guidance they needed to better understand the revenue and expense drivers of their annual operating budget.

Strategic Financial Planning: Tools for Assessing and Addressing Risk

This workshop was open to all attendees of the 2009 TCG Fall Forum on Governance. It was designed for not-for-profit theatres and engaged senior level staff and trustees in a discussion about the financial realities of meeting their missions during an economic crisis. Using real world examples, NFF offered interactive exercises to enhance staff's understanding of the interplay between financial risk, revenue reliability and fixed costs. It was also discussed how participants could make better plans and decisions for their theatres with this information.
