Pre-Conference: International Artistic Collaboration Forum
Tijuana, Mexico
Wednesday, June 18, 2014
8:00AM - 10:30PM
As part of TCG's 2014 National Conference: Crossing Borders in San Diego — a theme which challenged both the practical and conceptual barriers to strengthening the theatre field’s vitality — literal borders were also crossed when Pre-Conference attendees journeyed to Tijuana, Mexico to engage with local artists and culture. This full-day international Pre-Conference included a small group of individuals from the U.S. and Mexico for artistic and intellectual exchange through meetings, performances, tours of the actual border between the U.S. and Mexico and breaking bread.
Global Citizenship is one of TCG’s four core values (Artistry, Advocacy, Diversity and Global Citizenship), underscoring TCG’s belief that the future of the U.S. professional not-for-profit theatre requires a connection to the international network of theatres, artists and other cultural leaders. TCG has learned that the advantages of investing in cultural exchange are deep and wide-ranging, from providing audiences with new perspectives to promoting cultural and aesthetic diversity.
The proximity of TCG’s National Conference in San Diego to Tijuana provided a unique opportunity for U.S. theatre professionals to exchange experiences, models and strategies with Mexican colleagues, as well as nurture relationships and projects. For more information, see the agenda for the International Artistic Collaboration Pre-Conference.
