In November 1985, American Theatre magazine's second year of existence, Emily Mann's Execution of Justice appeared in its pages. It was the first full play text the magazine had published. Since then, the list (see below) has grown to more than 150 plays—so, you could say the idea stuck.
To celebrate our 150th play in April 2013, we launched the podcast series AT OffScript, in which we'll revisit many of these plays with their authors. The first episodes have featured Richard Foreman, David Lindsay-Abaire, Donald Margulies, Melissa James Gibson, David Henry Hwang, and Philip Kan Gotanda. Click on the play titles in orange to listen to these new interviews, read previously published Q&As with the playwrights and more. To subscribe to AT OffScript, click here.
To order plays that have appeared in back issues of American Theatre, contact Customer Service at 212-609-5900 or info@tcg.org or click here. (Supplies are limited.)
