Clean House and Other Plays, The
In 2000, the first act of The Clean House was commissioned by the McCarter Theatre Center, but it wasn’t until 2004 that the play, directed by Bill Rauch, received its world premiere at Yale Repertory Theatre. Ruhl, who originally envisioned herself as a poet, credits her foray into playwriting to Paula Vogel, who was her teacher at Brown University’s renowned playwriting program. The Clean House went on to become one of the most-produced plays in America and a Pulitzer Prize finalist. TCG has published three subsequent volumes of her work and will publish three more over the next two years.
